Gods and Goddesses, it is time. Our reign has finally come to an end. It is with my great regret that I am announcing the close of the SMITE Division. We’ve had a good run, and I think it’s about time.
The developer of SMITE, Hi-Rez, has made some less than agreeable choices as far as their direction of the game. They tasted the fruits of the professional gaming scene and that’s where the community and game has veered off to. When we embarked on raising the division, we had one absolute goal in mind: good casual fun. We enjoyed playing the game while it supplied us with a plethora of wins and losses, both enjoyed no matter what. We enjoyed playing despite that many of us were clearly just not that great at the game, myself included. We’d rather have fun, get drunk occasionally, making inappropriate jokes, probably lose, and move on to the next match.
That time has passed.
The community has turned to a far more competitive nature not unlike its MOBA cousins of LoL and DotA. The community has become a little more toxic than we’d like, and the fact that random players did not appreciate our trollish but effective tactics has lead to some displeasure. That being said, many of the game modes have become less desirable as the community has centered itself around the ‘Conquest or die’ mentality. All of this coupled with broken god releases, unnecessary buffs and nerfs to various gods, we’ve reached our limits.
We’ll still be here. Playing other games like Overwatch and whatever other nonsense you might find us in. The spirit of the SMITE Division will live on. We just want to have fun. And that’s what we’re going to do. I'd like to thank Vic for being an amazing XO. And I'd also like to thank our players for making the division what it was.
Looking forward to playing with you all in the next chapter of Midnight Squadron.
P.S. Do not deny.
I know some people have already been talking/posting about it, but here is the mega thread for the March Madness that we talked about at the last State of the Clan meeting. So here are some details on the days and events. PLEASE NOTICE THE CHANGE TO EASTERN DAYLIGHT TIME IN MID MARCH. The first two events already have topics posted and you can click the red links to go read about them.
Friday, March 4th at 8:00 pm EST - Table Top Simulator hosted by Atlas
Friday, March 11th at 8:00 pm EST - Star Citizen Multiplayer Matches with Laloric
Friday, March 18th at 8:00 pm EDT - Guild Wars 2 Night with Atlas
Friday, March 25th at 8:00 pm EDT - SMITE Night
So as some of you know (but there are probably many who don't) every Friday evening in March, we get together and stream some games. This year, we'd like to kick things off with something a little different. For those that don't know, Table Top Simulator is a game that lets you re-create and play board games with up to eight people. This is supported by the Steam workshop, which means virtually every game you can image is available to download and play.
Vic and I tested it out with a group of MSers a few weeks back and had an absolute blast, which is why I think its a great way to kick things off for MS' March Madness. So join us this coming Friday, March 4th at 8:00 pm EST for some classic board game fun.
